Faeger signed MOU with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) of Long An Province, Vietnam
On September 13, 2024, FAEGER co.ltd. signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) of Long An Province, Vietnam, to promote a project aimed at generating carbon credits from 100,000 hectares of rice paddies.
■ Project Overview
This project will conduct a demonstration experiment to generate carbon credits from rice paddies by implementing AWD (Alternate Wetting and Drying) practices.
FAEGER and Long An DARD will collaborate to support local farmers in achieving sustainable agricultural production, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and driving green transformation in the agricultural sector.
Specifically, the project will utilize funding sources such as the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) and voluntary carbon credits to secure financial resources for farmers to promote GX (Green Transformation) initiatives and emission reduction measures. By 2030, the goal is to generate carbon credits from 100,000 hectares of rice paddies within the province.
■ Roles of Each Party
FAEGER will leverage its expertise and experience in J-Credit applications through rice paddy mid-season drainage methods developed in Japan. Our responsibilities include introducing models for carbon credit generation using AWD, providing technical and professional support, and conducting monitoring to ensure high-quality carbon credit production.
Additionally, FAEGER will cover the costs for payments to participating farmers, procurement of equipment necessary for the experiment, and expenses related to the pilot project.
DARD will secure infrastructure and appoint technical staff to coordinate and connect local farmers for the project implementation.
During the first phase from October 2024 to July 2025, demonstration experiments will be conducted in two areas: Chau Thanh District and Vinh Hung District.
