Faeger Signs Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) to Advance Low-Emission Rice Systems and Climate Resilience in Uganda
Faeger Co. Ltd. is pleased to announce that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), one of the world's leading agricultural research organizations dedicated to rice science and innovation.
The MoU establishes a framework for scientific and technical collaboration to advance low-emission rice production and climate resilience in Uganda—beginning with the Doho Irrigation Scheme and scaling nationally and regionally— through joint research and technology development.
This collaboration represents an important step toward strengthening science-based implementation of Faeger's Climate-Smart Rice initiatives in Africa and supporting the development of scalable, high-integrity agricultural decarbonization projects in Uganda.
Under this MoU, Faeger and IRRI will work together to explore and promote collaborative initiatives, including the validation of climate-smart rice production practices such as Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD), biochar application, climate-resilient rice varieties, and other sustainable agricultural technologies. The collaboration will also include the development of technical guidelines, Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) systems, capacity building for farmers, and joint research and funding opportunities.
By combining Faeger's expertise in agricultural decarbonization and carbon credit project development with IRRI's globally recognized scientific knowledge and research network, both organizations aim to accelerate the adoption of climate-smart agriculture, reduce greenhouse gas emissions from rice production, and improve the resilience and livelihoods of smallholder farmers in Uganda.
