MOU signed with Angimex, one of the largest rice wholesalers in Vietnam, and NAUY CORP, a fertilizer manufacturer, to implement a rice paddy project in 500,000 ha in the Mekong Delta region.
In June 2024, Faeger Corporation (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Takahiro Ishizaki, President; hereinafter "Faeger") signed a Memorandum of Understanding (hereinafter "MOU") with Angimex, one of the largest rice wholesalers in Vietnam, and NAUY CORP, a fertilizer manufacturer that provides agricultural technology guidance to farmers. (NAUY CORP), a fertilizer manufacturer and provider of agricultural technology guidance to farmers, and agreed to promote decarbonized agriculture in the Mekong Delta region through the generation of carbon credits from agriculture. Minebea, Angimex, and NAUY CORP will work together to support rice farmers in the Mekong Delta region to achieve carbon neutrality in Vietnam, covering 500,000 hectares.
Background of the MOU
We are the first startup in Japan to create carbon credits from agriculture. In Japan, we are working with farmers to support their efforts to decarbonize agriculture by extending the drying-out of rice paddies and applying biochar, and to generate revenue through credit creation. In Southeast Asia, we are working to decarbonize rice cultivation through the introduction of AWD technology*² and credit generation through JCM*³, mainly in Vietnam and the Philippines, and this MOU with Angimex and NAUY CORP will accelerate our efforts to decarbonize agriculture in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam. The Mekong Delta region is a major rice-producing area in Vietnam, accounting for about 53%*⁴ of the total rice paddy area planted in the country. NAUY CORP is a rice wholesaler that operates mainly in the Mekong Delta region.
NAUY CORP is a fertilizer manufacturer with a wide range of business operations in the Mekong Delta region, providing farmers with fertilizer application plans for quality control and cultivation technology guidance. In this paddy field project, NAUY CORP will play a role in providing guidance on decarbonized farming techniques and fertilizer design.
Based on this MOU, the implementation system in Vietnam will be strengthened, and joint demonstration experiments are underway in Kien Giang and An Giang provinces and other areas to implement the project in the 500,000 ha area of the Mekong Delta region. In implementing the project, we will collaborate to create high-quality credits through technical guidance and close communication with farmers.
*2 AWD technology (Alternate wetting and drying) is called "Intermittent irrigation technology" and is one of the rice cultivation technologies that reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
