Faeger Obtains First-Ever Certification of Over 200,000 t-CO₂ in Agricultural Carbon Credits in Japan

Faeger Co. Ltd. has obtained certification for 225,735 t-CO₂ of carbon credits under the J-Credit Scheme at the 68th Certification Committee held on March 3, 2026. The credits were generated through the project “Extension of Mid-Season Drainage in Paddy Rice Cultivation.”

In addition, Faeger has also obtained certification for 27 t-CO₂ of carbon credits through a separate project based on biochar application to farmland.

This marks the first time in Japan’s agricultural sector that certified carbon credits have exceeded 200,000 t-CO₂.

■ Market Impact and Scale in Japan’s Agricultural Carbon Credit Sector
The methodology for “Extension of Mid-Season Drainage in Paddy Rice Cultivation” was officially registered under the J-Credit Scheme in 2023. Since then, Faeger has worked with producers nationwide, supporting implementation in a way that can be integrated seamlessly into existing farming practices without increasing operational burden.

This certification is based on activities conducted during the 2025 farming season (2025 vintage). The total volume of 225,735 t-CO₂ represents over 70% of the cumulative agricultural carbon credits certified in Japan to date (approx. 309,000 t-CO₂*), demonstrating a significant expansion of supply in the sector.

Compared to Faeger’s 2024 results (135,000 t-CO₂), this also represents an increase of approximately 1.7 times year-on-year, further strengthening its position as a leading supplier in the agricultural carbon credit market.

*Based on cumulative certified volumes of agricultural methodologies under the J-Credit Scheme as published by the secretariat. Faeger’s 2025 certification is not included in this figure.

■ Expansion Toward 2026 and Producer Participation

Looking ahead, Faeger aims to generate 400,000 t-CO₂ in carbon credits in 2026 and is expanding opportunities for producers to join its initiatives.

While participation ahead of the rice planting season allows for smoother onboarding, Faeger accepts inquiries year-round and provides information through online briefings and consultations.

To further support producers and reduce the burden of application procedures, Faeger is enhancing its service infrastructure for the 2026 farming season, including a dedicated mobile application, system integration with water management devices, expanded support tools, and strengthened customer support functions.

■ Future Outlook
Faeger will continue to expand the scale of agricultural carbon credit generation by increasing the number of participating producers and strengthening its implementation framework.

By leveraging its experience in scaling field-based implementation, the company aims to accelerate the deployment of practical decarbonization models in agriculture.

In parallel, Faeger will contribute to improving the economic sustainability of producers through carbon credit revenues, while supporting the long-term resilience and sustainability of agricultural systems.
