Faeger Obtains Japan’s Largest Agricultural Carbon Credit Certification
Faeger Co. Ltd. has obtained certification for 135,944 t-CO₂ of agricultural carbon credits under the 64th J-Credit Certification Committee. The credits were generated through the project "Extension of Mid-Season Drainage in Paddy Rice Cultivation."
Faeger began its efforts under the J-Credit Scheme in 2023, when this methodology was first registered. In the first year, the company generated 5,778 t-CO₂ of credits from 61 producers across Japan, all of which were sold to corporate buyers.
In 2024, the project scaled up to 1,221 producers and 25,202 hectares, resulting in the generation of 135,944 t-CO₂—a more than 20-fold increase over the previous year. This represents one of the largest-scale certifications of agricultural J-Credits in Japan, exceeding 100,000 t-CO₂.
■ Future Outlook
In 2025, Faeger plans to work with 5,000 producers nationwide to generate 300,000 t-CO₂ in credits. By 2027, the company aims to promote 1,000,000 t-CO₂ of decarbonization across 300,000 hectares, equivalent to 20% of Japan’s total paddy fields.
In parallel with credit creation, Faeger is also conducting R&D to improve yield and reduce labor, contributing to the development of a sustainable agricultural system.
