Faeger Conducts a Seminar on Agricultural Carbon Credits for JICA

Faeger conducted a seminar titled “Agriculture, Climate Action, and Carbon Credits” for staff members of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on October 17, 2025.

The session was led by Dr. Nobuto Yasui, Faeger’s Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO), who provided an overview of international developments in carbon credit frameworks, approaches to both mitigation and adaptation in the agricultural sector, and Faeger’s ongoing initiatives in Japan and overseas.

Agriculture plays a vital role in addressing climate change—not only in mitigating greenhouse gas emissions but also in enabling adaptation to changing climate conditions.
Faeger promotes sustainable rice cultivation practices such as alternate wetting and drying (AWD), extended midseason drainage, and biochar application, creating agricultural carbon credits that contribute to both climate mitigation and rural income improvement.

During the seminar, Dr. Yasui discussed current trends in global carbon markets, including ongoing negotiations under Article 6.4 of the Paris Agreement, as well as the challenges and opportunities of agricultural carbon projects.
He also introduced Faeger’s case studies from Japan and abroad, highlighting pathways for integrating climate action and local development in the agricultural field.

Faeger will continue to collaborate with public institutions and international organizations to promote sustainable agriculture and advance climate-resilient farming systems around the world.
