[Philippine Rice Research Institute × Faeger]
Launch of Joint Research in the Philippines

Faeger Co. Ltd. (Headquarters: Tokyo, Japan, CEO: Takahiro Ishizaki), a company promoting decarbonized agriculture, has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on July 31, 2025, with the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) (Headquarters: Muñoz City, Director General: Dr. John C. de Leon) to conduct joint research on "Enhancing Agricultural Productivity through Decarbonized Farming Methods, Including Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD)." Through this initiative, the two parties aim to scientifically demonstrate the compatibility of decarbonization and agricultural productivity and to advance the transformation of the rice sector in the Philippines.

Background and Purpose of the Collaboration
In the Philippines, methane emissions from rice cultivation are a major source of greenhouse gases in the agricultural sector, making their reduction an urgent priority. PhilRice is a leading research institute in the country, specializing in water management and cultivation techniques for rice, and plays a central role in driving innovation in agricultural technologies.

Faeger is a startup engaged in the generation of carbon credits through the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) in the agricultural sector, and is expanding decarbonization initiatives across ASEAN countries, including the Philippines.
Through this MOA, both parties will share their expertise and conduct joint research aimed at improving the productivity of Filipino farmers and ultimately contributing to national food security.
