Faeger Signs MoU with the Faculty of Agriculture, Kasetsart University, Thailand’s First Agricultural University

Drawing on academic expertise to put low-carbon farming into practice and advance research for the carbon credit business in Thailand

Faeger Co. Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Takahiro Ishizaki; “Faeger”), which handles agricultural carbon credits from origination to sale, is pleased to announce that on October 19, 2026, it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Faculty of Agriculture, Kasetsart University (“the Faculty”) in the Kingdom of Thailand. Under the MoU, the two parties will explore collaboration in both business and research to achieve sustainable agriculture through low-carbon farming.

■ Overview of the MoU
Kasetsart University is Thailand’s first agricultural university and a world-class academic institution. It has a long and distinguished record in agricultural research, and through its extensive expertise and cutting-edge research facilities, it has contributed significantly to the development of Thailand’s primary sector and environmental sciences.
Thailand is one of the world’s leading rice producers, and reducing methane emissions from paddy fields is an important challenge for both climate action and the sustainability of agriculture. Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD)*, a water management technique that alternates flooding and draining instead of keeping paddies continuously flooded, has drawn attention as an effective way to achieve this. Building on the experience it has gained in developing agricultural carbon credits in Japan, Faeger is working to promote environmentally friendly farming across Asia.
Under this MoU, the two parties will combine the Faculty’s academic expertise with Faeger’s expertise in the carbon credit business, and explore collaboration toward putting low-carbon farming into practice and creating value from it, looking ahead from research and field trials to the development of carbon credits. The areas under consideration include not only AWD but also biochar, charcoal made from materials such as rice husks and applied to farmland to store carbon in the soil over the long term.

*Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD)
Instead of keeping paddy fields continuously flooded, AWD repeatedly lets the water level drop below the soil surface and then re-floods the field. This suppresses methane, which microbes produce in waterlogged, oxygen-free soil, and also reduces the water and pumping fuel used for irrigation.

■ Comments
Patchariya Boonkolkaew, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Kasetsart University
“Through this MoU, we will explore a partnership with Faeger in sustainable agriculture and drive the development and expansion of low-carbon farming, from field trials to on-farm measurement, water-saving technologies, digital MRV and technical guidance for farmers. We are confident that by joining forces with Faeger, we can create real value for farming communities in Thailand and beyond.”

Takahiro Ishizaki, CEO, Faeger Co. Ltd.
We are truly honored to have signed this MoU with the Faculty of Agriculture at Kasetsart University, a research institution that represents Thai agriculture. Spreading low-carbon farming requires scientific evidence rooted in the field, starting with the actual measurement of greenhouse gases. Drawing on the Faculty’s expertise, we will work with Thai farmers to build a system that achieves both environmental improvement and profitability.”
