Signed MOU with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) of Nghe An Province, Vietnam
On December 18, 2024, Faeger Co. Ltd. signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) of Nghe An Province*¹ in Vietnam to promote a collaborative project aimed at generating carbon credits through rice paddy fields.
■ Project Overview
This project involves a pilot initiative to create carbon credits from rice paddies by introducing AWD (Alternate Wetting and Drying)*² practices. Through this partnership, DARD and FAEGER aim to support local farmers in sustainable agricultural production, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and advance a green transformation in the agricultural sector.
More specifically, the project seeks to secure financial resources for promoting green transformation (GX) and mitigation efforts by leveraging funding sources such as the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM)*³ and voluntary carbon credits. The target is to generate carbon credits from 50,000 hectares of rice paddies within the province.
Field trials in rice paddies in Nghe An Province
Nghe An Province, located in central Vietnam, is the second-largest rice-producing region in the area and is equipped with extensive irrigation infrastructure, offering significant potential for GHG reduction through AWD practices.
Both parties have agreed to set the target area at 50,000 hectares, which accounts for nearly half of the province’s total rice paddy area. If the project progresses successfully, further expansion is anticipated.
