Faeger Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Uganda’s National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO)

Faeger signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) of the Republic of Uganda on October 13, 2025.

The MoU was concluded in conjunction with the launch of the “Pilot Project for the Promotion of Climate-Smart Rice Cultivation Using Carbon Credits,” a METI-supported initiative led by Faeger. Through this partnership, Faeger will collaborate with NARO and its affiliate, the National Crops Resources Research Institute (NaCRRI), to advance research, technology transfer, capacity building, and policy development related to climate-smart rice cultivation in Uganda.

The project aims to promote environmentally sustainable rice cultivation and enhance farmers’ income through the generation of agri-based carbon credits. In selected plots within the Doho Irrigation Scheme (total area approx. 2,000 ha) in Mbale District, Eastern Uganda, the project will introduce Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) and biochar application quantifying their impacts and assessing the potential for carbon credit generation under multiple methodologies.

Building on the collaboration framework established under this MoU, Faeger will work toward expanding the initiative across Uganda and other African countries, contributing to sustainable agriculture and the decarbonization of the agricultural sector.
