Faeger Showcases Low-Carbon Rice with WAVE BCG and Wonnapob at Embassy of Japan-Hosted Event in Thailand

Faeger Co. Ltd. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Takahiro Ishizaki; hereinafter “Faeger”) participated in the Waste Management Study Group’s Study Session “New Challenges for a Sustainable Thailand,” an event hosted by the Embassy of Japan in Thailand on August 25, 2026. At the event, Faeger exhibited at a joint booth with WAVE BCG and Wonnapob under the theme of low-carbon rice.

Low-carbon rice refers to rice produced through farming practices designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. At the joint booth, the three companies presented the following products and initiatives:

・Wonnapob: Offered eco-friendly jasmine rice to visitors
・WAVE BCG: Displayed rice produced using Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) * in connection with Premium T-VER, Thailand’s carbon credit program
・Faeger: Displayed rice grown by farmers participating in Faeger’s initiatives and distributed to business partners and other stakeholders as a token of appreciation

*AWD is a water management method that alternates between flooding and draining rice paddies. It is attracting attention as an approach that can help reduce methane emissions from rice cultivation.

The booth also featured a photo slideshow introducing the public-private Low-Carbon Rice Project led by Thailand’s Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.
Faeger presented the initiative to the local subsidiaries of Japanese companies in Thailand, as well as Thai government agencies and local businesses. Through these activities, Faeger sought to build relationships with companies considering the purchase of low-carbon rice and its associated environmental value, as well as with potential project partners.

Background and Social Significance

Methane, one of the greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming, is generated in flooded paddy soils. Improving water management practices is therefore one way to reduce methane emissions associated with rice cultivation.
Expanding the production and use of low-carbon rice requires more than emissions-reduction efforts at the farm level. Systems are also needed to record and verify these efforts, along with collaboration with companies that purchase the rice and its associated environmental value.
It is also important for government agencies, local businesses, Japanese companies, and other stakeholders to share an understanding of the project’s objectives and establish a framework for collaboration.
Faeger will continue sharing information with Thai government agencies, local businesses, and the local subsidiaries and Japan-based headquarters of Japanese companies. Faeger will also work to build relationships with prospective buyers and potential project partners.
Through these efforts, Faeger aims to support the continued development of low-carbon rice and public-private projects in Thailand.
